iPhone 14 Screen Replacement

Apple iPhone 14

Quick answer

A cracked or faulty iPhone 14 display is normally fixed by replacing the complete 6.1-inch OLED display assembly. Face ID keeps working if its parts weren't damaged in the drop, and a non-genuine display shows as "Unknown Part" in Settings > General > About.

The iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display behind Ceramic Shield front glass. When it cracks, stops responding to touch or shows lines, the usual fix is a complete display assembly replacement — but not every dark or glitchy screen is a broken screen, so we test first.

This page covers what to look for on an iPhone 14 specifically, what can and can't be fixed by a new screen, and what to check before you book a doorstep visit or bring the phone to our studio in Nampally.

Advice that applies to every iPhone — data safety, what to check before booking and common causes — is in our iPhone screen replacement guide; this page focuses on what's specific to the iPhone 14.

How do I know my iPhone 14 screen needs replacing?

  • A crack across the notch area, sometimes with Face ID failing after the same drop

What makes the iPhone 14 different for this service?

  • Display: 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR (OLED) behind Ceramic Shield front glass, with a notch for the TrueDepth camera.
  • Refresh rate: this model's original display runs at a standard 60 Hz, so ProMotion isn't a factor in choosing a part.
  • Parts history: the iPhone 14 lists the display in Settings > General > About. Apple says a non-genuine display shows as "Unknown Part" there; it doesn't stop the phone working, but Apple notes it can affect trade-in value.

How does screen replacement differ across the iPhone 14 series (2022)?

The iPhone 14 series split in two: the 14 and 14 Plus kept a notch and a 60 Hz panel, while the 14 Pro and Pro Max introduced the Dynamic Island and an Always-On display. The 14 and 14 Plus were also redesigned inside so both the screen and the back glass come off separately.

Standard models share their screen size with the Pro model of the same generation in several years, but the panels usually differ in refresh rate or cut-out, so they aren't interchangeable.

What should I check on my iPhone 14 before booking?

  • The iPhone 14 went on sale in September 2022, so unless it was bought much later or has extended cover, it's likely outside Apple's one-year limited warranty. You can confirm at checkcoverage.apple.com.

What do we test on your iPhone 14 before handing it back?

These checks are chosen for the iPhone 14's hardware, so features this model has are confirmed working after screen replacement:

  • Face ID set-up and unlock
  • MagSafe alignment and wireless charging
  • Ring/Silent switch
  • Parts and Service History entry for the display

What should I expect after the iPhone 14 service?

We test touch across the whole screen, brightness, True Tone, the proximity sensor (screen should switch off when held to your ear on a call) and Face ID before handing the phone back. If a non-genuine part was used, Settings > General > About will show "Unknown Part" for the display — that's expected.

IPhone 14 screen replacement: frequently asked questions

Will Face ID still work after a iPhone 14 screen replacement?

It should, provided the Face ID parts weren't damaged in the original accident. The TrueDepth parts that power Face ID sit at the top of the phone and are paired to the logic board; a careful screen replacement works around them rather than replacing them. We check Face ID before we start, so you know beforehand if the drop already affected it — a new screen can't bring back Face ID if those parts are damaged.

Will my iPhone 14 show an "Unknown Part" message after the new screen?

If the replacement isn't a genuine Apple display installed through Apple's process, yes — Settings > General > About will list the display as "Unknown Part". Apple states this doesn't affect your ability to use the phone. We'll tell you which part grade we're quoting so there are no surprises.

My iPhone 14 screen is cracked but works — can I wait?

You can, but cracks in front glass usually spread, sharp edges can cut, and on an OLED panel like the iPhone 14's a crack can let pressure reach the panel and start black ink-like spots. If the image is perfect and touch works everywhere, a screen protector over the crack buys time; once you see lines or spots, the panel is damaged too.

Does a screen replacement affect True Tone on the iPhone 14?

It can. Apple's own guidance is that with a non-genuine display, True Tone might not work correctly and colours may look too warm or too cool. After fitting, check Settings > Display & Brightness for the True Tone switch and compare a white page with your old screen if you remember it.

Is the iPhone 14 screen the same as the iPhone 14 Pro screen?

No. Although they share the 6.1-inch size, they differ in the cut-out or refresh rate, so they use different display parts. We quote by exact model.

How much does iPhone 14 screen replacement cost?

We don't publish a fixed price for the iPhone 14 because it depends on the part grade you choose and current availability. You get a firm quote after we inspect the phone and before any work starts, and you pay only after the service.

Is the iPhone 14 still water resistant after the screen is replaced?

Apple rates the iPhone 14 IP68 (up to 6 metres for 30 minutes) when new. Once a phone has been opened, nobody can honestly guarantee that rating again, even with fresh adhesive. Treat the phone as no longer water resistant and keep it away from water.
