What are the common signs of an iPhone motherboard problem?

• Phone is completely dead even with a known-good battery and charger
• Constant restarts or a boot loop that a software restore doesn't fix
• Severe liquid damage with corrosion across the board
• Damage to the main processor or storage that can't be repaired at component level

What applies to every iPhone model?

• Your data lives on the board. Storage is soldered to the logic board and encrypted with keys tied to that board, so a replacement board starts empty. Without a backup, the data on a dead board can only be reached by bringing that board back to life (chip-level work).
• Face ID is paired to the original board. On a replacement board from another phone, Face ID normally won't work, and that pairing can't be redone outside Apple.
• Identifiers: the IMEI and serial number belong to the logic board. After a board replacement the phone reports the replacement board's identifiers. A legitimate replacement never involves altering an IMEI.
• Activation Lock: any replacement board must be free of Activation Lock and come from a legitimate source.

When won't motherboard replacement fix an iPhone?

Many 'dead' iPhones turn out to have a failed battery, charging port, display connector or a single faulty component. We rule those out before ever suggesting a board replacement, because a new board means losing Face ID and starting with an empty phone.

• Try a software restore with a computer if the phone powers on but won't boot.
• If you need your data and have no backup, chip-level service on the original board is the only way to reach it.

What should I check before booking?

• Check whether you have a recent iCloud or computer backup.
• Know your Apple Account password — you'll need it to sign in and restore.

What should I expect afterwards?

The phone is set up fresh, so you'll restore from backup and sign in again. Face ID will usually be unavailable. We test calls, mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cameras, charging and audio with you, and note the new IMEI and serial number on your invoice.
