iPhone 16e Screen Replacement

Apple iPhone 16e

Quick answer

A cracked or faulty iPhone 16e display is normally fixed by replacing the complete 6.1-inch OLED display assembly. Face ID keeps working if its parts weren't damaged in the drop, and a non-genuine display shows as "Unknown Part" in Settings > General > About.

The iPhone 16e has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display behind Ceramic Shield front glass. When it cracks, stops responding to touch or shows lines, the usual fix is a complete display assembly replacement — but not every dark or glitchy screen is a broken screen, so we test first.

This page covers what to look for on an iPhone 16e specifically, what can and can't be fixed by a new screen, and what to check before you book a doorstep visit or bring the phone to our studio in Nampally.

Advice that applies to every iPhone — data safety, what to check before booking and common causes — is in our iPhone screen replacement guide; this page focuses on what's specific to the iPhone 16e.

How do I know my iPhone 16e screen needs replacing?

  • A crack across the notch area, sometimes with Face ID failing after the same drop

What makes the iPhone 16e different for this service?

  • Display: 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR (OLED) behind Ceramic Shield front glass, with a notch for the TrueDepth camera.
  • Refresh rate: this model's original display runs at a standard 60 Hz, so ProMotion isn't a factor in choosing a part.
  • Parts history: the iPhone 16e lists the display in Settings > General > About. Apple says a non-genuine display shows as "Unknown Part" there; it doesn't stop the phone working, but Apple notes it can affect trade-in value.
  • The 16e has a notch rather than a Dynamic Island, so its screen is not the same part as the iPhone 16's, even though both are 6.1-inch.

How does screen replacement differ across the iPhone 16 line-up (2024–25)?

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max grew to 6.3 and 6.9 inches, while the 16 and 16 Plus stayed at 6.1 and 6.7 inches with the Dynamic Island. The iPhone 16e, launched in February 2025, uses a 6.1-inch notched display instead.

The "e" models use a 6.1-inch notched OLED display rather than the Dynamic Island screens of the same-year standard models.

What should I check on my iPhone 16e before booking?

  • The iPhone 16e went on sale in February 2025. Depending on when yours was bought, and whether it has AppleCare+, it may still be under Apple coverage — check at checkcoverage.apple.com before booking any independent service.

What do we test on your iPhone 16e before handing it back?

These checks are chosen for the iPhone 16e's hardware, so features this model has are confirmed working after screen replacement:

  • Face ID set-up and unlock
  • Qi wireless charging
  • Action button
  • Parts and Service History entry for the display

What should I expect after the iPhone 16e service?

We test touch across the whole screen, brightness, True Tone, the proximity sensor (screen should switch off when held to your ear on a call) and Face ID before handing the phone back. If a non-genuine part was used, Settings > General > About will show "Unknown Part" for the display — that's expected.

How does the iPhone 16e compare for screen replacement?

IPhone 16e screen replacement: frequently asked questions

Will Face ID still work after a iPhone 16e screen replacement?

It should, provided the Face ID parts weren't damaged in the original accident. The TrueDepth parts that power Face ID sit at the top of the phone and are paired to the logic board; a careful screen replacement works around them rather than replacing them. We check Face ID before we start, so you know beforehand if the drop already affected it — a new screen can't bring back Face ID if those parts are damaged.

Will my iPhone 16e show an "Unknown Part" message after the new screen?

If the replacement isn't a genuine Apple display installed through Apple's process, yes — Settings > General > About will list the display as "Unknown Part". Apple states this doesn't affect your ability to use the phone. We'll tell you which part grade we're quoting so there are no surprises.

My iPhone 16e screen is cracked but works — can I wait?

You can, but cracks in front glass usually spread, sharp edges can cut, and on an OLED panel like the iPhone 16e's a crack can let pressure reach the panel and start black ink-like spots. If the image is perfect and touch works everywhere, a screen protector over the crack buys time; once you see lines or spots, the panel is damaged too.

Does a screen replacement affect True Tone on the iPhone 16e?

It can. Apple's own guidance is that with a non-genuine display, True Tone might not work correctly and colours may look too warm or too cool. After fitting, check Settings > Display & Brightness for the True Tone switch and compare a white page with your old screen if you remember it.

Is the iPhone 16e screen the same as the iPhone 16 screen?

No. Although they share the 6.1-inch size, they differ in the cut-out or refresh rate, so they use different display parts. We quote by exact model.

How much does iPhone 16e screen replacement cost?

We don't publish a fixed price for the iPhone 16e because it depends on the part grade you choose and current availability. You get a firm quote after we inspect the phone and before any work starts, and you pay only after the service.

Is the iPhone 16e still water resistant after the screen is replaced?

Apple rates the iPhone 16e IP68 (up to 6 metres for 30 minutes) when new. Once a phone has been opened, nobody can honestly guarantee that rating again, even with fresh adhesive. Treat the phone as no longer water resistant and keep it away from water.
